About
A native of Portland, Oregon, Alexander Kienle has served as Assistant Principal and Utility Horn of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra since 2014. His musical journey began at age five, enthusiastically ringing toy bells at a Montessori school, followed by piano lessons at six. When his school band had no room for more trumpet players, he took up the French horn at age eleven—and never looked back.
Kienle studied at the Juilliard School from 2004 to 2010, where he was a student of Jerome Ashby and Julie Landsman. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees, receiving the prestigious William Schuman Prize for Outstanding Graduate Student upon graduation.
As a performer, Kienle has appeared with renowned ensembles including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Australian Chamber Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony, Florida Orchestra, New World Symphony, and the Verbier Festival Orchestra. He has also appeared as a soloist with the Dallas Symphony, New World Symphony, and the Aspen Conducting Academy Orchestra.
In addition to his orchestral work, Kienle is a passionate educator. He has been a faculty member at the Aspen Music Festival and School since 2020 and has taught horn at Southern Methodist University since 2019.
